First, of course, a big thank you to the entire team who has anxiously worked towards this day for over a year. Going from ETHWarsaw hackathon winners to launching our public mainnet in less than a year is fantastic, so congratulations to the AZERO.ID crew behind the scenes!
Today marks an important day for Aleph Zero and the whole Substrate ecosystem. The first ever ink!-based domain nameservice is going live for the public. The protocol has undergone an extensive security audit by Kudelski Security and was intensively stress tested by our community on the Aleph Zero testnet over the last weeks.
The initial version of the AZERO.ID protocol provides you with the following exciting features, among others:
- Register your domain for up to three years — Our domains come in the form of NFT’s that are fully controlled by you.
- Attach all your website and social handles to the domain — Aggregate your on-and off-chain identity with our metadata storage.
- Secure your domain’s access rights — Set controller and resolver to achieve maximum security and flexibility with our role system.
- Your domain’s personal spotlight — An individualized website for every domain that showcases all your metadata, acting like an on-chain Linktree — only cooler.
- Bring your friends to the party: Our unique on-chain referral system gives the nod (and rewards) to those who introduce their friends to our domain world.
- Trade in style: Looking to dabble in the secondary market? Our seamless integration with the ArtZero NFT marketplace offers your domain trading from the very beginning.
This is the first step in creating web3 most innovative and user-friendly domain system. Over the following months, we will refine the platform and develop AZERO.ID’s USPs according to our roadmap.
With Aleph Zero’s upcoming privacy framework Liminal, AZERO.ID will be able to provide web3’s first privacy-preserving domain system. This will allow us to finally enable the full power of on-chain domains, enabling users to build up their identity without revealing their on-chain activities. Further, we aim to solve the economic challenges of domain services and the existing problem of domain squatting with an innovative demand-based pricing mechanism. Moreover, we are extensively researching a multi-chain future for AZERO.ID leveraging the power of the XCM protocol to create a unified domain system and namespace for the entire Substrate ecosystem.

Trading enabled from day one 📈
With today's public launch of AZERO.ID, the ArtZero marketplace will exclusively bring the first-ever secondary market for AZERO.ID NFT domains to the community. The ArtZero team has put in a significant amount of effort to support AZERO.ID domain smart contracts since our domains are not basic PSP34-NFTs, but highly customized smart contracts offering crucial functionalities required for an on-chain domain system. The ability to trade domains fully permissionless, trustless, and on a decentralized infrastructure solves many existing challenges of web2 domain marketplaces and heavily improves the UX of domain trading.
